Information about how the Prints are made, Sizes and Special Orders.

We sell prints; prints, and more prints. Selecting prints to buy is done from within the galleries. When a large image is being displayed, you can scroll down to the Purchase this Photograph section to view your selections in the cart or to purchase a photo. Go to Purchase Path for more information on buying the photographs.

The images on Phototown are created using high resolution digital cameras or scanned from film negatives resulting in a digital file of the image. The photographer then loads the image file into state-of-the-art imaging software to fine-tune and prepare it for Phototown.

NOTE: For your convenience, the images used for display on Phototown are low resolution for faster loading and viewing. When an order is placed, the photographic prints are made from a much larger digital file which is very high resolution and extremely high quality.

When an order is placed for an image, the image file is sent to one of the finest professional photo labs in the country and a photographic print is made. Phototown selected this lab to make our prints because it's been the professional photo lab of choice for Daniel Brant Photography and Hafer Photography. It's the lab they've used for their own professional portrait studios for a number of years.

Once the prints are made, they have to pass the lab's quality control before being shipped to us. And, only after our own inspection to assure that the print is in the finest condition possible is it sent to the customer. All prints are dry mounted on artboard. The print surface is lacquered for protection. One of the benefits of having lacquered prints is that they do not need to be framed under glass and can be dusted by lightly wiping the print with a clean cloth that has been slightly dampened with water.

The available size for each photograph is listed under the description at the lower left while it is displayed in the galleries. All of the print sizes are determined by the photographer, based on the type of photograph and what they think will work best for that image. The majority of the prints are available in standard sizes of 20x24, 16x20, 11x14, and 8x10. Large prints are available in 30x40 and 24x30. Panorama prints are available in 12x24 and 10x20. Canvas Wrap print are available only in 16x20.

Looking for a special photograph of something or size you didn't find in the galleries? The photographers all have extensive files of images that haven't made it into the galleries so feel free to contact us with your requests. We do have sizes and photographs that are not in the galleries available only by special order. Use to the Special Order form to submit a request. If you need images for other mediums or uses, we have images available with limited licensing rights, please contact us for additional information.

In Example: A. below you can see the full size of the image. Looking at the different color cropping lines you can see that to get an image size of 24x30, 16x20 and 8x10, the image is cropped at the red lines. For a 30x40 the image is cropped at the blue lines. For a 20x24 the image is cropped at the green lines. For an 11x14 the image is cropped at the black lines and just a little more of the image is printed.

What is displayed in the galleries as the large image, (what you see when the larger image comes up) is cropped as a 24x30, 16x20 and 8x10, cropped at the red lines. In some cases, cropping an image for a particular size might not look good, so the photographer doesn't offer that image in those sizes.

Special Order Information:

By standardizing the sizes, Phototown keeps the prices affordable. Special ordered images, which could be due to a special size, paper type, surface coating, mount or other item not normally offered on Phototown, are handled by request. Go to the Special Order form to submit a request. We also offer limited licensing rights to use images in other mediums.
