Meet the Photographers

Here you can learn a little about the photographers that create all the gorgeous photographs on Phototown.  The short bios aren't really enough to get to know them; it's more like an introduction.  They don't have a lot to say when you ask for it to be written down, maybe they're a little reluctant to talk about themselves.  So let me say this, besides being great photographers and I mean really great, they are good people.  The kind you are proud to know and call a friend.  I know I am, and I thank them for joining me in bringing Phototown to you.

The original concept for Phototown was in early 1998 and the domain name Phototown.com was registered in March of that year.  Work on the idea has continued ever since and with some recent technology changes, Phototown can now be brought to you.  But it's the diversity of the photographers, the individual characteristics of their perspective of how they see the world about us that really makes Phototown come to life.

We're a diverse group in some ways and very similar in others.  For several years now, we have met at least once a week for a few hours to share and exchange ideas and learn new techniques.  On occasion we get together for field trips where we go to different locations to take photographs.  This is a real joy for us and always fun where a lot of laughter can be heard as we get to share these special times together.  If you notice some photographs that look similar but were taken by different photographers in the galleries on Phototown, they might have been taken during one of these magical times.

And now . . . the Photographers

Daniel Brant is a professional portrait photographer.  Dan became actively involved in photography in 1973, primarily because of Dennis Hafer, and opened a photography studio with his wife, Penny, in 1986.  Dan teaches photography and enjoys exploring digital imaging.  Searching for interesting nuances of nature has always been one of his goals.  In recent years, he has refocused his attention onto the wonderfully creative images of the "Natural Art" of things existing in nature.  It could be in the manmade things that are being recycled by the forces of nature, like old abandoned cars and buildings, or in nature's display of shapes and colors of flowers or the curling leaf clinging to a fence.  Dan’s ability for finding and capturing the right parts of the "Natural Art" speaks volumes of his talents.  Dan's images come from inspirations that touch the soul, that cause us to pause and take that extra moment with Mother Nature in appreciation for all given us.  Dan hopes the spirit in his images calls to you too.

Bud Friesen retired from a career as a professional portrait photographer.  Bud has now returned to his first love - outdoor and nature photography.  Bud and his wife Erna have traveled extensively through-out the United States and Canada.   Patience to wait for the defining moment is the key to much of his photography.   His work is created with the imaging media of the 21st. Century.  Bud is a 20 year member of the Twin City Camera Club.

To our friends and customers that have been waiting for Dennis Hafer's wonderful images,
Dennis sends his apologies, due to other obligations, he is unable to participate at this time.
Dennis says he definitely wants to join us on Phototown in the future.

Tom McCall is a Private Investigator.  Photography has always been a major part of Tom's life.  Starting in grade school Tom was introduced to photography by a schoolmate whose father was a Kodak dealer and had a darkroom in their home.  In law enforcement, the military and personally, Tom has used photography for work and pleasure.  Tom likes to find ways to capture and create images that have an essence or emotion, or maybe just to knock your socks off.  Tom has lots of fun with photography and truly enjoys sharing it.  Tom is a life member of the Twin City Camera Club.

Jim Pittman is a retired pediatric dentist.  Jim's father was a high school chemistry teacher and taught him how to develop film and print black and white pictures when he was a teenager.  While in college, Jim helped finance his education by working in a factory during the summers and on weekends taking pictures of family reunions at a local park.  In the 1970's Jim became active in a local camera club and set up a darkroom in his home to print both color and black and white photographs.  Jim's talent, technical skills, along with a wonderful imagination helped produce some truly amazing photographs.   A lot of Jim's work was with medium and large format film cameras and is now with digital cameras and scanners.  Jim's been selling his photographs for many years and they are being enjoyed by people in lots of homes, offices and businesses.  You can see some of Jim's "Imagination" in an article at http://www.twincitycameraclub.com/tips_techniques1.htm where Jim is a life member.
